John Scot Barrowman is an English American actor, singer, presenter, author, judge and comic book author; Born in Glasgow, Scotland. He is probably best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who. Barrowman moved to Illinois with his family when he was eight years old. Encouraged by his high school teachers, he studied performing arts at American International University in San Diego before landing the role of Billy Crocker in Cole Porter's Anything Goes in London's West End. Since his debut, he has appeared in numerous musicals in the West End and Broadway, including Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Matador. After appearing in Sam Mendes' film The Fix, he was nominated for the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical and in the early 2000s returned as Billy Crocker in the cover of Anything Goes. .
